False affiliation with the RMI and Trust My Garage

RMI False Affiliation – Insurance

It has been brought to the attention of the IGA that an insurance broker in the north-west of England has been targeting Trust My Garage members claiming false affiliation.

They have been advising that they are able to discount their insurances, as a result of the garage’s TMG membership, but the IGA has no agreement in place with this insurance broker.

The only motor trade policies available exclusively for RMI members are through Allianz insurance and insurance broker Gallagher, and all communication promoting third party offers through the RMI will always come directly from us.

RMI False Affiliation – Card Processing

An issue has arisen where a debit/credit card processing organisation, Retail Merchant Services Ltd, (RMS), have contacted at least two of our members, initially via telephone then a face-to-face visit, purporting that they have a connection with RMI and that due to that relationship they are able to offer the garage preferential rates on card payment machines and processing transaction fees.

One member contacted us directly to verify that their stated connection was genuine, which we confirmed was not, but decided to arrange a meeting with a representative of RMS. At the meeting they again stated that they had a relationship with the RMI.

We have no formal or informal agreement in place with RMS. They will be sending out a communication to their telesales and field sale staff clarifying that they, RMS, have no affiliations with ourselves.

TMG False Affiliation – CCTV

The IGA has been made aware of a company called STS Security selling CCTV systems in the South-East to member garages and claiming to be affiliated with Trust My Garage.

The Trust My Garage scheme has no affiliation to this business. All communication promoting third party offers through Trust My Garage will always come directly from us.
