Mercedes-Benz joins SERMI ahead of UK launch

IGA News, Press Releases, SERMI

The Independent Garage Association (IGA) is pleased to confirm that Mercedes-Benz has officially committed to the SERMI scheme, taking the total number of participating vehicle manufacturers in the UK to 22.

The addition of Mercedes-Benz marks a significant milestone for SERMI, bringing one of the world’s most recognised automotive brands into the scheme just weeks before it goes live on the 1st April. The continued momentum from manufacturers underlines the importance of SERMI as a secure and trusted framework for accessing vehicle security-related repair and maintenance information.

With global vehicle technology becoming increasingly complex, manufacturer participation is critical to ensuring independent garages can continue to operate effectively. The inclusion of Mercedes-Benz further demonstrates growing industry alignment behind a standardised approach to secure data access.

The UK launch of SERMI on the 1st April will mark a major turning point for the independent sector, enabling approved garages to access essential information relating to vehicle security systems through a recognised and regulated process.

Manufacturers now committed to SERMI in the UK include:

Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Ford, Jaguar, Jeep®, Lancia, Land Rover, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Ram Trucks, Toyota, Vauxhall, Volvo and Volvo Trucks, with further brands expected to follow.

Stuart James, Chief Executive of the IGA, said, ‘Welcoming Mercedes-Benz to SERMI is another major step forward for the scheme in the UK. To see such a globally significant manufacturer come on board at this stage sends a very clear signal about the importance and credibility of SERMI.

With 22 manufacturers now committed ahead of the 1st April launch, the momentum behind SERMI continues to build at pace. This level of support ensures that independent garages will be able to operate within a secure, recognised framework that gives them the access they need to work on modern vehicles.

As we approach the live date, our focus remains on ensuring garages are informed, prepared and able to make the most of the opportunities SERMI will provide from day one.’

The IGA continues to encourage independent garages to review whether SERMI is relevant to their business and to begin the onboarding process in advance of the launch. With requirements including DBS checks and application processing times, early preparation will help ensure a smooth transition when the scheme goes live.

The Association will maintain ongoing communication with the sector as SERMI adoption progresses, supporting garages through what represents one of the most significant developments for the independent sector in recent years.
