Autodata Technical Issue 62 – loss of power in 2010 Citroen Berlingo III in wet conditions

Q. We have a customer with a 2010 1.6 HDi Citroen Berlingo III who is complaining of a loss of engine power and hesitation in wet weather conditions. We have experienced the symptoms on road test but cannot source the cause of the fault in the workshop. Is this a fault you are aware of?
A. We are aware of this fault and it is due to interference of the accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor signal caused by the windscreen wiper motor. To complete this repair an auxiliary earth wire complete with protective sleeve, available from a Citroen parts department, and an ECM software upgrade will be required.
Remove windscreen scuttle panel. Disconnect windscreen wiper motor wiring harness multi-plug. Remove pin 1 from windscreen wiper motor wiring harness multi-plug (fig. 1.1.). Insulate end of wire and secure to wiring harness. Insert the wire terminal of auxiliary earth wire into position 1 of windscreen wiper motor wiring harness multi-plug. Reconnect windscreen wiper motor wiring harness multi-plug. Fit protective sleeve to auxiliary earth wire. Remove LH water drain channel. Secure one eyelet of auxiliary earth wire to LH water drain channel mounting bolt (fig. 1.2.). Refit LH water drain channel. Secure remaining eyelet of auxiliary earth wire to LH wing inner mounting bolt (fig. 1.3.).
Refit windscreen scuttle panel. Re-program engine control module (ECM) with upgraded software. Carry out road test after repair to confirm the fault has been rectified.
