Autodata Technical Issue 60 – Intermittent electrical issues in 2007 Suzuki Swift
Each month the Autodata team answers a common technical question and provides a printable document with technical diagrams to download and keep, exclusively for IGA members.
Q. A 2007 Suzuki Swift we look after is suffering an electrical problem of intermittent loss of central locking, electric windows and hazard warning lamps. We have carried out wiring tests and checked earth points for loose or corroded connections but have not found the cause of the fault. Is this a known fault?
A. Yes, other Suzuki Swift owners have reported this fault and it is due to water ingress into the multifunction control module through a bodywork joint in the A-post. Carry out a water test to the A-post area to confirm the fault. If the fault is present, remove the windscreen. Apply sealant to the bodywork joint in the affected area (Fig 1).
Refit the windscreen. Replace the multifunction control if necessary. Erase any related trouble codes. Check the electrical components mentioned function correctly to confirm the fault is fixed.
